Down The Hallway

She was the first to finish. The teacher took the test and handed her directions to follow.


"Take these to the library and talk to Mrs. Gill."


Sara walked down the hallway and handed the test and directions to the librarian. "Follow me, and I’ll take you to where you need to go," she said.


She followed the librarian down a long and winding staircase where there was no more light, only a torch to help lead the way.


“This is where we take all our ‘Hopefuls’ to be examined,” the librarian specified as she led them down the path to what felt like a sort of basement or chamber hidden in the bottom of the building.


You'll go on to test more and go through some special exercises that will prove your worthiness to fit into our new culture of students. You'll be part of the elite, but not for the reasons you may think we would build this club for.


“What are you building this club for?”


“If I told you right away, I don’t think you would want to join on account that you haven’t gone through our ‘understanding’ process yet.”


“Well, why not?! That’s not comforting. I’m not sure I want to even get involved.”
