The Destroyer From Within

“Nurture vs Nature is one of the biggest questions we have asked ourselves as a society. Do we create the human that lies within, or is it predetermined through factors that are set up in our DNA?” Thomas questioned as he stood before the group of scientists he was presenting to.

“We’ll be exploring this very subject as we take this journey with A.I. We’ve already spent decades preparing the many safety protocols that are required in this, and we’ll continue to measure and manage as we go along. Save your questions for when we work one-on-one so I can take the time to really explain and take that walk with you individually,” the professor explained.

“Let us walk through the facility where you’ll be doing all this groundbreaking research. Some of it will be unsuccessful, and that’s to be expected. But some of it will take you to places not yet explored, and that is truly the goal of this project: to discover what is possible. Please follow me as I walk you all through the rooms of the buildings,” he directed as he guided them towards the entrance of the first room.

He walked into the first room, the holding room where they had all the different versions of cells they had collected over the past few years. All contained units lined up and labeled throughout the room. All of them were at different states of growth and from different origins.

Some of them are human, some are from other sources around our planet that we have found to be an exceptional match for this experiment. The creatures were at the "end of life" when we took the cells. Part of this experiment is to see if cells have a true end cycle or if we are just limiting their potential by outside factors. Take a look at this particular subject; it wouldn’t be an experiment on intelligence and longevity if we didn’t have octopus cells in our project. One of the most advanced species, it has shown some of the most intriguing results out of most of our subjects, but we had to introduce the octopus DNA slowly because of its intelligence and accelerated progress. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves with Octopus A.I. We’ll be dealing with terrifying and awe-inspiring discoveries; that’s where our safety protocols come in. If you see something that raises a red flag, say something immediately. This is also why we work in groups; it’s part of the safety protocols, no secrets. We need to remain transparent to everyone who is on board with this project. This is the only way we can protect ourselves and this experiment.

In the next room were small robots hooked up to the different cells, all in different stages of learning and growth. They were given enough room in each environment to flourish as individuals. Some had built-in families, while others were brought up as loners to see what would happen psychologically.

“In this room, we have our different environments of study where we create psychological threats and positive reinforcements to truly see how each one turns out. We do this so we can take a small glimpse into how our biotech develops. Will they all grow up to become outstanding citizens, or will they all destroy humanity? Each one has been programmed to release data to us every night on the progress of the individual. As soon as it records alarming red flags, it shuts down momentarily, lets us know, and we can safely put the subject in a hibernated state where we can see what kind of red flags caused the shutdown and if we can change these factors or if it’s a subject we must take off the floor and put in our highly secured facility. Our highly secure facility is locked down, and only a handful of individuals are allowed there. That’s where we keep the most dangerous to study so we can understand what could potentially go wrong in a scenario. This concludes this building's tour; we will visit each building as we level up in your progress. I want each of you to understand each step thoroughly before even considering the next step.”
